The Liverpool Anthem, also known as Liverpool theme song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” was originally written in 1945 by Rodgers and Hammerstein as the theme song for a musical Film called Carousel.

Bt then in 1964, Gerry Marsden – who died today – was the head of a musical band named Gerry and the Pacemakers, who made a cover version of the You’ll Never Walk Alone song with his band. The song was one of his favourites as a kid since he saw the film “Carousel”.

The Cover song went on to become a hit in the UK and the DJ at Anfield played the music regularly before matches until it became a tradition.

In 1965, You’ll Never Walk Alone became LFC’s official Anthem.
